Sommelier Feedback:

Comments from Sommeliers who have tried our wines:

Robert M. Parker, Jr. - The Wine Advocate

2013 Appassionata - 95 Points

"The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Appassionata has an even inkier blue/purple color and a stunning nose of blackberries, blueberries, graphite and Spring flowers. It is much mor youthful and less evolved compared to the 2012, but even more concentrated and delineated. This is a sensational effort, but again, production is extremely small. Ideally, this begs for several years of bottle age, but it should evolve and drink well for 20-25 years. Drink 2019-2044.”

Ian Cauble - Master Sommelier & star of the documentary movie "SOMM":

"With unctuous density, texture and rare balance, this modern style of Napa Cabernet holds its own with the cult superstars.”

"Steve's wines are an excellent expression of the Napa Valley with opulence, great black fruit overtones along with a freshness and suppleness brought about by good acidity and ripe tannins. The bouquet is appealing with hints of sandalwood, cinnamon and spice. These are well-made wines that are elegant, very approachable and a good value. We featured Steve's 2011 On Q Appassionata on Somm Select recently and it was very popular with our customers"

Patrick Okubo - Master Sommelier and Fine Wine Educator at Young's Market, Oahu, HI:

"Your wines are delicious! Well-balanced and well-made."

William Scherer - Master Sommelier & Wine Director at Redd Restaurant Yountville, CA:

"The Cabernet Sauvignon presents unmanipulated flavors of black cherry and cassis along with a freshness that well expresses the quality of the Napa Valley."

Catherine Fallis - Master Sommelier; aka - Grape Goddess:

The 2011 Appassionata is a Bordeaux style blend that is highly perfumed and exotic with notes of lily, lilac, red rose, sandalwood, cedar chest, cigar box, cinnamon, black currant, black raisin, and sun dried tomato. Initially very smooth and supple, astringent grape (from the Cabernet grape’s skin) and oak (from new French oak barrels) tannins kick in for a big, meaty, chewy finish. This very recently released wine will age gracefully for several years, but if you can’t wait, decant an hour or two before serving, and pair with braised or grilled meats or game."  96 Points

Catherine Fallis - Master Sommelier; aka - Grape Goddess:

“The 2010 Appassionata reminds me right away of Gianduja, a specialty of Torino (Turin), Italy, the chocolate capital of Europe. Gianduja is a hazelnut-sweet chocolate blend which inspired the world-famous Nutella. Red currant, black raisin, blackberry hard candy, black licorice, vanilla bean, cedar, toasted rye and cardamom cookie notes rounds things out. This rich, complex, powerful and extracted Cabernet- based blend is full of charm and charisma. It is still quite tannic, but the tannins are fine and the gorgeous fruit keeps bubbling up to the surface, caressing the palate and letting you know it is not leaving for a long, long time.” 97 Points
